Civilian Services

Civilian Services covers the support-service roleplay jobs that respond to CAD calls the same way PD, Fire, and EMS units do, but for non-sworn work:

  • Tow & Recovery
  • Coroner / Medical Examiner
  • DOT / Highway Services
  • Network Engineer (branded in-app as Kestrel Relay) — comms and infrastructure-flavored callouts

Someone working one of these isn't a CAD unit like an officer, firefighter, or medic — they're a civilian service character, a separate concept from a sworn unit, even though the day-to-day workflow feels similar.

Not yet available

Private Security exists as an option a community owner can enable, but there's currently no workspace for a security-org member to actually work from. Enabling it today gives your members an org to belong to with nowhere to use it. Don't turn it on until that changes.

Requesting a civilian service (dispatch)

On an active CAD call, dispatchers get a Supporting Services panel alongside the usual unit-assignment controls. From it, you can request any civilian service org your community has enabled directly against that call.

The request comes pre-filled from the call itself — department, location, and whatever vehicle or civilian is already linked — so you're not re-entering information you've already got on screen.

Once requested, the call shows the live status of that request right in the call detail panel. It's styled distinctly from an assigned CAD unit, since a civilian service worker isn't one — you can tell at a glance which kind of help is inbound.

tip

You can request a civilian service on a call at any point while it's active, not just when it's first created.

Working requests (civilian service personnel)

Anyone who belongs to at least one civilian service org gets a Services workspace of their own, separate from the MDT officers and medics use. From it, you can:

  1. See open requests. Every unassigned request for your org shows up here, visible to everyone in that org at once.
  2. Self-assign. Pick a request and take it — no supervisor approval or special permission needed. It's first-come, first-served.
  3. Work it. Update progress as you go, and cancel it if the situation changes and you can't finish.

If you belong to more than one civilian service org — say, both Tow & Recovery and DOT — a workspace switcher lets you move between them without leaving the Services area.

What happens per job type

Job typeOn completion
Tow & RecoveryAn impound record is created automatically, so the vehicle has a paper trail without any extra data entry on your part.
Coroner / Medical ExaminerAccepting the assignment creates a case file, which fills in progressively as you work the job rather than all at once at the end.
DOT / Highway ServicesRuns the same generic request workflow as the others but doesn't create any additional record — it simply ends in a Road Clear completion.
Network EngineerSame generic workflow, used for comms/infrastructure-themed callouts. No extra record type.

Setting it up (community admins)

Civilian Services is a single install from Admin → Marketplace. Once installed, a per-job-type picker lets you turn on only the services your community actually wants — you don't have to enable all four (or five, once Private Security has a workspace) at once.

See Setting Up Your Community and Marketplace & Plugins for the install and configuration steps.
